The draw took place for the first round of the Intertoto Cup on Monday, with Shels being drawn to face Lithuania’s FK Vetra. The Danish representatives are next up for the winners, with the winner of the 2nd round tie then facing Scottish opponents.
The first round games take place the weekend of 17/18 and 24/25 June.
FK Vetra are based in Vilnius and play their home games at “Vetra Stadium” which according to worldstadiums.com was the first private stadium built in Lithuania after the break-up of the Soviet Union.
Vetra have some pedigree in this competition as in 2004 they ended Hibs chances, with a 2-1 aggregate win over the Scots in the second round. However, they were crushed last year 7-3 on aggregate in the first round by Romania’s Cluj.
The pre-season was busy for Vetra with a number of new signings, a training camp in Cyprus for almost a month and a number of friendlies including a draw with Bohemians opponents from Belarus a few seasons’ ago BATE Borisov. They also signed a co-operation agreement with Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow, which covers everything from players to fans.
The season started well for Vetra, with an easy win in the Lithuanian Cup, however they lost to champions Ekranas 2-1 over 2 legs in the semi-final, in a game which was played indoors according to uefa.com
